Our annual Woman of the Year event occurred on Monday, April 16, 2018, at the Madison Hotel Conservatory (6pm). This year, we are recognized Dr. Bette Simmons, vice president of Student Development and Enrollment Management at County College of Morris (CCM). Dr. Simmons is being presented the award for exemplifying what women and girls can achieve and her long-standing contributions to the community, and she has also been a dedicated community volunteer, serving on various boards. She is currently involved with the Morristown Neighborhood House, the Morris County Human Relations Commission, the Calvary Baptist Church Community Development Corporation, the Morristown Juvenile Conference Committee, the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey, Alliance for the Parks, Community Hope, Inc. and the Morris County Sexual Assault Advisory Board. In addition, she provides training for the Volunteers for Morris County as well as the Seton Hall University Board Leadership Institute. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Service Program of Zonta which includes support of Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey Leadership Program; underwriting a youth summer camp scholarship for the child of a Jersey Battered Women resident; support of the Women Playwrights Series at Centenary Stage Company in Hackettstown, NJ, and donations to Operation Holiday.
